PAST PROJECTS
Mind=Body=Environment
Delivered in partnership with the West Midlands Branch of the British Psychological Society. This seminar model looked at how psychology can be used to address problems of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety and stress and bring real benefit to the community. The target audience included psychologists, psychotherapists, community activists, employment advisers and anyone involved in helping or working with people in real life situations.
European School of Social Animators
Working with CAL (“centre, activity, locality”), a non-governmental organisation supporting community development in Poland and other groups across Europe, My Time was part of the European School of Social Animators project between September 2004 and September 2005. The project focused on developing community-based projects that provided a voice for the socially excluded.
READ Network
From September 2002 to July 2005 My Time was the lead Coordinator of READ (Rural Exchanges and Access for investigating new ways of Developing rural districts), a transnational project in partnership with West Midlands Churches Regional Forum. The project involved linking with five other countries (Poland, France, Reunion Island, Austria, and Spain) and learning about the therapeutic and educational needs of disadvantaged rural communities.
Faith, Food and Therapy – The development of a project that explores the effects of faith and the ritual of cooking and eating together. This is a natural and positive way to build self-esteem, dispel the effects of isolation, promote a better understanding of different cultures, and develop links between food-producing rural areas and urban parts of the West Midlands.
Adjust – A work/life balance project that is exploring how SMEs can reduce stress levels in management and employees.
PAST COURSES
Women, Food and Mood
January 2007. It was a training course for women. People learnt how the food of different cultures can bring people together and develop confidence and self-esteem within the individual and community. People also learnt how to develop a community based food project and understand about how the positive use of food can make us feel better about ourselves.
This was a FREE facilitators course delivered as a 2.5 hour session per week for 8 weeks. The programme will included developing confidence, training in core skills such as effective communication, planning and leadership, health & hygiene, nutrition, growing your own food, establishing food group/project/cooperative, buying and budgeting opportunity to undertake voluntary work in a food project, provision of IAG, and sign-posting to potential employment opportunities in the food and health and social care sector, practical demonstrations and links to support organisations.
Broken Spirits/ Healing Spirits – Learning Effective Counselling Skills for working with Asylum Seekers
My Time Course for Women
January 2007 - March 2007.This course was designed to give women the chance to explore their ideas and goals in a safe environment. The course enabled women to learn how to set goals, how to create an action plan for their future, how to recognise their current skills and how these may transfer in the workplace. Attending this course enabled people to work towards achieving an Open College Network Progression Qualification in Building a Personal Career Portfolio.
Aston Pride- Men In Health and Women In Health
February 2007 - comprised a women and men’s course.This was a New Introductory Training Course for men and women wanting to Work in Health, Social Care, Community and Voluntary Sectors. This was for people unemployed and aged between 18 – 55 living in the B6 postcode area. This FREE introductory course was delivered as two 2.5 hour sessions on a Monday and Tuesday for 5 weeks. The programme included developing confidence, training in skills such as communication, health & hygiene, CV writing, provision of IAG, and sign-posting to potential employment opportunities in the health and social care sector. People had the potential to achieve a nationally recognised College Network Progression Qualification in Building a Personal Career Portfolio.
My Time's Men Course
A FREE course designed to help men aged 18-65 years of age in Small Heath or Sparkbrook areas, on how to make their first steps into employment. The course aimed to: Give men the chance to discuss what they want out of life, Give men the opportunity to develop social skills, to enable a better chance of finding work or getting into education, To develop their langauage and presentation skills, To provide support that enabled men to fulfill their goals and tackle the important issues that arise in life, To encourage: support and develop their confidence so that they can access further training:education or employment in the future, Learn through fun activities with men in a similar position and learn from men in the community that have successfully overcome difficulties and gone onto employment. Participants learnt how to produce a c.v, how to have confidence at interview stages and discovered new skills and get information, advice and guidance.
