Work Life Balance with Rural Bussinesses
10 Nov 2007
Over the past year we have worked closely with rural communities and businesses across South Staffordshire in promoting Work Life Balance in association with Adjust the Balance, a European Social Fund and Learning Skills Council project. We held a presentation in Lichfield on the 31st October at Parkingham Hall Farm.
The event was attended by 20 rural based businesses, including farmers and other rural companies who took part in the expierence. The main purpose was to celebrate the outcomes of the project and present ten suggestions from farmers and health consultants on 'How to realistically achieve work life balance in small enterprises'.
Some of these tips include-
"Spend time to make time and improve planning to allow social time"
"Know where you are going, have clear objectives"
"Make lists, break tasks into small chunks feel in control"
"De-clutter, organise your work and space"
Although the event ran smoothly, the project, lasting a year, was a hard learned exercise in perserverence. "To be with it seemed like an impossible task" comments Julie White, who worked tirelessly with all 20 participants. "Some were one person businesses with livestock to care for, others operating with minimal staff. Even to take off was a real challenge. We have learned so much during the year and hope that other businesses will be inspired to believe that a goodwork lfe balance is possible"
